Let’s talk passion!
Passion is operationally defined as a desire or devotion to some activity, object or concept. How does one measure or observe passion, let’s see: long work hours, additional data, analysis, research, discussion with colleagues, trainings, interventions. These are all quantifiable behaviors that one can observe to assess passion. While these observable measures appear to increase burn-out, there is another factor or should I say variable that when added creates sustainability in this field, and that is learned experience. My passion in this field is best measured by motivation (motivational operation), which consist of many factors. The base of my passion centers on cultural representation or the lack thereof within the field of behavioral/human services. To be specific the lack of African American’s in the behavioral field/education field paired with the importance of mentorship or services from individuals that represent one’s culture increase the value or passion to be of service in this field. Tyree behavioral consulting was created to provide services in known target areas that have staff shortages and limited information on practices.
